Soldier killed in Afghanistan

Cpl. Yannick Scherrer, 24, was killed by an improvised-explosive device Mar. 27 at roughly 12 pm local time while on foot patrol with the Afghan National Army near Nakhonay, southwest of Kandahar city, the CBC reported. The corporal was from Montreal and on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan. He is the first Canadian to die since Dec. 18, when Cpl. Steve Martin died from an IED, and is the 155th member of the Canadian Forces to die serving in Afghanistan since 2002. Four Canadians civilians have also died.
