MP: new regs could hit trade

The Conservative government is raising concerns in New York State about proposed regulations that one Ottawa MP said could cause nearly $11 billion in lost revenue on both sides of the border, Global News reported. "We don't believe the St. Lawrence Seaway can remain open if the regulations go in un-amended," Pierre Poilievre said.

The Conservative government is raising concerns in New York State about proposed regulations that one Ottawa MP said could cause nearly $11 billion in lost revenue on both sides of the border, Global News reported. "We don't believe the St. Lawrence Seaway can remain open if the regulations go in un-amended," Pierre Poilievre said. "The damage would be massive." The regulations, intended to come into force in August 2013, would aim to "prevent invasive species from entering New York's waters through boats travelling along the seaway."
