Goodwill ambassador Dashan

Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Canadian-born Chinese celebrity Mark 'Dashan' Rowswell as goodwill ambassador to China, CTV News reported. Mr. Harper made the announcement while on a trip to China this week. Mr. Rowswell was studying in Beijing in the mid-1980s when he caught the attention of the Chinese during a TV appearance. He has since become a cultural icon in China. During his trip, Mr. Harper is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Mr. Wen's likely successor Vice-Premier Li Keqiang.
