Baird lobbied Palestinian vote

Foreign Minister John Baird personally phoned fellow foreign ministers in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Chile, Panama and El Salvador to sway their vote on Palestinian statehood at the United Nations, the Globe and Mail reported. Mr. Baird's intervention is a signal that Canada takes the issue very seriously, the paper reported. The list of countries was drawn up because of perceived connections to Canada.
