New watchdog chief former Tory

Chuck Strahl, a former Conservative MP in British Columbia, has been appointed the new chair of the Security Intelligence Review Committee, CBC News reported. The SIRC, created in 1984, oversees the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. The current bill to implement the federal budget, which is being debated, would eliminate the current position of Canada's inspector general of CSIS and roll together the two oversight operations into one.
