Newly released documents have indicated that the Canadian government reacted quickly after an attack on the United States’ consulate in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11 2012, CBC News reported. A secret briefing note sent in an email from the Foreign Affairs department’s regional security abroad unit contained information on safety measures for the Canadian embassy in Tripoli, Libya. Another briefing note indicated that by mid-day Sept. 12, Canada’s Tripoli and Cairo embassies had been informed of the events and had updated security instructions.
